Synopsis: Ukraine Rising documents an innovative and resilient society confronting a war that is reshaping the nature of modern conflict. From the pre-Christian traditions of the Hutsuls in the Carpathians to Ukraine's Orthodox majority, from the Jewish community of Dnipro to displaced Crimean Tatars, ordinary citizens have become determined defenders of their families, cultures, and homeland in the face of Russia's invasion. The film also explores the spiritual and deeply human dimensions of the war. Director Andy Cohen and cameraman Bogdan Papadin follow Rabbi Yakov Pinchas Synakov into the killing zones of the Donbas (15km from occupied Pokrovsk), where he brings blessings and support to soldiers on the front line, and Oleksii Yukov, who works under constant threat of drone attacks in Sloviansk to recover the bodies of fallen soldiers and return them to their families for burial.
Currently in post-production.
